Building Trades

Enrolling in ACTI’s Building Trades program gives students hands-on opportunities to explore many different aspects of the construction trades. Students learn to operate tools and equipment safely, read blueprints, lay block, frame a house, install shingles and siding, wire a house, plumb/heat/cool a house and install all of the interior finishes—from flooring to paint to trim.

Required Student Purchases

Building Trades students are required to dress for safety in the lab and on worksites.  This includes ACTI tee shirts and hoodies; long, heavy fabric pants (like demin jeans…no shorts, pajamas, sweat pants); and work boots.  We recommend that you purchase five (5) tee shirts and two (2) hoodies.  Hard hats will be provided when necessary.

Additionally, students are required to purchase their own tool belt and small set of tools including:

  • tool belt and pouch
  • tape measure
  • speed square
  • utility knife
  • hammer
  • chalk line
  • nail puller
  • safety glasses
  • hearing protection
  • work gloves
Altogether, uniforms and tools will cost about $350…a little more if you need to buy boots and work pants.
Financial aid is available if you need it .  Check our EITC page or contact us.
